LACHLAN SAT ON the hood of the car and looked just as pissed off as when I left him. Great, just what I need. I narrowed my eyes at him. His jaw was tight with tension and I could feel how he wanted to explode at me. I was not going to deal with this shit right now. I pulled open the passenger side door and slipped in without a word.
He got behind the wheel and put it in gear. The ride back to my apartment was filled with silence and building anger. The air was charged with the fury I knew just needed a tiny spark to ignite it. I knew what he was doing. He was doing the same thing I was doing: waiting until the door closed behind us. Then all bets were off.
The door of the apartment closed behind me and like a light switch he got in my face and started in on me.
âJust what the fuck were you thinking!?â Our height difference never bothered me until this very moment. He had to bend down to me and looked like he was scolding a mischievous child.
âAddison, you could have been hurt. You could have jeopardized this whole fucking mission; fuck, Addison, you probably already have.â He was furious. His eyes went incandescent and the incredulity and strength of his anger slapped me across the face. Even his barely noticeable Scottish burr was more pronounced. But, I did not think he would be breaking out the kilt anytime soon. Damn him. His fists clenched and unclenched.
I looked over to the small coffee table next to the couch that rested against the wall. I calmly walked over to it and climbed atop it, then turned to face him. âI didnât mess fuck-all up. And, had you fucking talked to me at all these last few weeks, maybe I wouldnât have done this. God, Lachlan, what happened to you? What the hell did I do?!â We were the same height now, so he didnât have to bend to get in my face. He walked over and did just that.
âAddison, I have more experience than you. You could have been hurt. What donât you get about that? I know you were panicked at one point. It passed, but I felt your fear pressing on me. What happened?â
âNothing! He passed out and I was afraid he was dead!â I was so not going into my closet of deepest and darkest secrets with him.
I narrowed my eyes and poked him in the chest with a finger. âWhere have you been? You ignore me and reply in a one or two-word text. If you donât like me, fine. Tell Cannon and Iâll find another way to work off my favors!â I didnât realize how mad I really was at him until right now. I couldnât even give him the chance to speak, I was that incensed.
âYou know what, Lachlan? Fuck you!â I was honest to God yelling at him. My heart was beating like a wild thing.
